How to Move Local Mac Calendar Events to iCloud

To move local Mac events to iCloud, create or choose an iCloud calendar in Calendar on Mac, then move selected events into it or export the local calendar and import its events there. Keep a backup and review the result before deleting the local source.

An On My Mac calendar is local storage. It does not become an iCloud calendar simply because it appears in Apple's Calendar app or because iCloud is enabled elsewhere on the Mac.

Confirm that the source is local

In Calendar on Mac, show the calendar list and find the affected calendar under On My Mac. Open a sample event and check its calendar.

If the calendar appears under Google or Exchange, its events are already stored online with that provider. Decide whether they should stay there, especially for work meetings or shared schedules, before moving them to iCloud.

Identify which service stores the calendar before moving it.

Prepare the iCloud destination

Confirm the Mac is signed in to the intended Apple Account and has iCloud Calendar enabled. In Calendar, create a new calendar under iCloud if you want a clean destination for the move.

A separate calendar makes the imported batch easier to inspect and remove if necessary. Give it a clear name and confirm that it appears under iCloud in the calendar list. If it appears under On My Mac, create the iCloud destination before importing.

Before moving the history, open the destination on iCloud.com or another device connected to that Apple Account.

Move a few events directly

For a few appointments you own, open an event and change its calendar using the calendar selector. To move several, Command-click to select them, Control-click a selected event, and choose the destination calendar.

Move a test event first. Look for it in the online destination and confirm it has left the local calendar.

Apple's event-moving guide describes single-event and multiple-event options.

For recurring appointments, inspect the scope of the change. Do not assume selecting one occurrence means the entire series will move as intended.

Export and import a whole calendar

For a larger transfer, select the local calendar and use File, Export, then Export to save an ICS file. Keep this original file as your backup.

Import that file into the chosen iCloud calendar, explicitly selecting the destination when prompted. Review the result before importing it again. Repeated attempts can create confusing duplicate batches.

Use an individual calendar's ICS export for this task. A full calendar archive is a different kind of backup; importing an archive can replace existing calendar information rather than simply add one calendar's events. Apple's import/export guide explains the difference.

Times, recurring events, and invitations

Compare a normal appointment, an all-day event, a recurring series and a changed recurring occurrence. Check time zones, notes, locations and reminders.

Active invitations deserve special care. Moving or importing an event is not necessarily a transfer of the organizer relationship or future meeting updates. Preserve the original invitation path and use the provider's supported options for meetings managed by someone else.

Check the next few weeks on another device. A calendar name appearing there is encouraging, but the dates and details are what you actually need to trust.

Connecting the moved calendar to Avum

Avum connects to online calendar sources; it cannot copy an event that exists only in a local Mac calendar it cannot access. Moving the events to iCloud puts them in an online calendar that Avum can connect to.

After that, connect the Apple Account and inspect Avum Calendar. If selected occupied time should appear in another provider, use a Sync Rule with appropriate destination details.

Avum is not needed for the migration itself. The native export/import or move handles that job; synchronization is a separate choice for what happens afterward.

Keep new events from returning to local storage

Open Calendar settings → General and select the iCloud calendar as the default if it should receive your usual appointments. The default changes where new events go; it does not relocate the old local history. On iPhone, review the default calendar separately.

Hide the old local calendar while checking the new setup. Once you have verified the moved events and kept the export backup, remove the local source if it is no longer needed.
