Calendar Sync Stopped After a Password Change: What to Reconnect
Restore access to the calendar account that stopped syncing after the password change. If it uses an app password, it may need a replacement credential; if it uses provider authorization, renew that authorization through the provider's sign-in flow. First confirm that the original calendar is current on its own website.
The source account after the reset
Open the calendar provider's website and sign in with your current credentials. Confirm a recent appointment and any changes made after the password reset.
A phone can display old cached events after its connection stops. Create a test appointment on the website and see whether the phone receives it.
If the source itself is unhealthy, follow the provider's account recovery or sync instructions first. Trace the missing update if the source and receiving account disagree.
If the connection uses an app password
An app-specific password is a separate credential generated for a particular app or device. Typing a new ordinary password into the app does not replace a revoked app-specific credential.
Apple states that changing or resetting the primary Apple Account password revokes existing app-specific passwords. You need a new one for an app that uses that method. Its app-password guide explains creation and revocation.
For Nextcloud, device-password behavior can also depend on how the account is managed. Its connected-device documentation describes device-specific credentials and external-backend password changes. Follow the server's password-reset instructions for your account type.
Use a separate named credential for the connection where supported. That way, you can tell later which credential to revoke.
If the app uses provider authorization
A Google or Microsoft consent screen normally sends you to the provider to approve access. The calendar service uses the access granted through that authorization, without requiring you to type the account password into its settings.
If the service says the account needs reconnecting, use its supported reconnect or reauthorize action. Check the account shown in the provider window, especially if several personal and work accounts are already signed in.
Google lets you inspect third-party connections in account settings; its linked-app guide explains access review and removal. A Sign in with Google entry and permission to access calendar data can appear as separate connections.
For a managed Microsoft account, renewed approval can be subject to organization policy. If the error asks for an administrator, send an approval request to IT.
Update the connection before replacing the calendar
Where available, change the credential or renew authorization on the existing connection. Read the confirmation before removing an account, because removal can affect more than the calendar view.
In Avum, restore the affected source or destination account's access, then reopen its Sync Rule. Confirm the rule is active and still selects the calendars you want to connect. Do not create a second identical rule just because the first stopped receiving changes.
For a CalDAV source, verify the server address and supported credential too. Work through CalDAV credentials, addresses, and permissions if the account still fails.
If you must remove an old connection, first check what happens to the copies it already created. Revoking credentials can prevent a service from removing old destination copies.
After reconnecting, create an appointment without guests at the source, confirm it reaches the destination, then change its time. Check the provider websites before relying on mobile refresh.
Feed links and obsolete credentials
If only an ICS subscription stopped, ask whether the password change also revoked or replaced its private feed address. A new account password is not something to paste into the URL field. Use the publisher's current supported link.
Finally, remove obsolete app passwords once the replacement is working. Keep a note of which device or service each remaining credential belongs to, without recording passwords in a shared document.
