Avum vs Calendly: Calendar Sync and Booking Links Explained

Calendly stops clients booking over your commitments. It does not stop coworkers doing the same. When a colleague invites your work address from Outlook, they see only your work calendar, and your personal appointments are invisible to them. Avum fixes that by copying those appointments into the work calendar as private busy blocks. Many people need both tools; few need only Calendly.

The gap Calendly leaves open

Calendly checks the calendars you connect before offering a slot, then writes the booking into one calendar. That works perfectly for people who use your link.

Coworkers do not use your link. They open Outlook's Scheduling Assistant or Google's “Find a time”, look at your work calendar and send an invitation. If your dentist appointment lives in a personal Google or iCloud calendar, that work calendar shows you as free. Why visible personal calendars still allow double-booking explains the problem in detail.

An Avum Sync Rule copies the appointment into work Outlook as “Busy”, without its title, notes or location. Coworkers see that you are unavailable and nothing more. The original stays in your personal calendar.

iCloud and other calendars Calendly cannot check

Calendly stopped accepting new iCloud connections on August 20, 2024, and its connection list does not include CalDAV servers or ICS feeds. Avum connects all of them. A rule can copy busy time from iCloud, Fastmail, Nextcloud or a published rota into your Google or Outlook calendar. Calendly checks that calendar, so the commitments now block your booking page too.

The same trick helps on Calendly's free plan, which connects one calendar. Avum gathers busy time from your other calendars into that one, so a single connection covers your whole schedule.

Using Avum and Calendly together

Give each tool one job. Calendly creates bookings. Avum copies commitments into the calendars that need to show busy time. Point Calendly's conflict check at the calendar that receives Avum's busy blocks, and test with a real booking preview after moving an appointment to make sure the old slot opens again.

Choose Avum if…

  • Coworkers or clients invite you directly in Outlook or Google
  • Personal or client appointments must block your work calendar privately
  • You use iCloud, CalDAV or ICS calendars
  • You want one calendar that Calendly can check for everything

Choose Calendly alone if…

  • Every meeting is booked through your link
  • Calendly connects to every calendar that matters
  • Nobody schedules with you directly
