How to Sync Google Calendar with Outlook: Native Options and Automatic Sync
You can bring Google Calendar and Outlook together by adding accounts to one app, subscribing to a calendar feed, using Outlook's personal-calendar availability feature, or maintaining event copies with a sync tool. Choose based on whether you need a complete view, read-only updates, or occupied time written into another calendar.
You can keep the accounts separate and put the information where you plan your day or where people book you.
One app with both accounts
A calendar app that supports both accounts can show the schedules together. That may be enough if you mainly want to stop checking two places before making plans.
The events remain in their original accounts. Editing a Google event still changes Google; it does not create a Microsoft event simply because you used Outlook or Apple Calendar as the app.
Check current account support for your app and version. Work accounts may require administrator approval or a particular sign-in method. For the display-only route, see all calendars in one place.
Read-only subscriptions
Google can provide an iCalendar address for a calendar when its settings and organization policies allow it. In Outlook on the web, choose Add calendar and Subscribe from web, then enter the appropriate feed address.
For the opposite direction, Outlook can publish a calendar link when permitted, and Google Calendar on a computer can add suitable feeds through Other calendars and From URL.
Keep secret addresses private. Do not publish a confidential work schedule to make a feed available to another app.
A subscription is generally read-only and refreshes on the receiving service's schedule, sometimes hours later. Importing a downloaded ICS file creates a one-time snapshot. Microsoft documents import and subscription behavior.
Outlook's personal-calendar availability
Outlook on the web can connect one personal Google or Outlook.com account to work or school availability. This is worth trying when your personal commitments live in the primary calendar of one supported account.
It does not include every secondary calendar, and it is not a general connection between all Google and Microsoft calendars. Microsoft's personal-calendar guide describes the scope.
The focused Outlook busy-time guide explains how to choose between that feature and other methods.
Ongoing copies with a sync tool
Use automatic copies when work needs changing personal busy blocks or your personal calendar needs work commitments copied with your employer's permission. Manual copying is reasonable for occasional events.
Before choosing a tool, check updates, cancellations, recurring exceptions and privacy controls. A workflow that creates new appointments but never moves or removes them can leave misleading availability behind.
Desktop tools and hosted services have different maintenance needs. A desktop tool may depend on the right computer and Outlook version being available; a hosted service manages the copying away from your laptop. Check organization approval in either case.
Setting up Google and Outlook in Avum
Connect the Google and Microsoft accounts, select the actual source and destination calendars, and create a Sync Rule.
Start with one direction. For personal-to-work, replace titles with “Busy,” omit descriptions and locations, and set the copies to Busy. For work-to-personal, choose which details you need and are allowed to copy.
Two directions of copying do not mean every copy is a second editable original. Keep changing each appointment in its source calendar. The one-way versus two-way guide explains this habit.
Avum Calendar can help you review connected schedules, but the copying rules are what determine the destination's events.
Before adding the rest of your calendar, try an appointment with sample details. Inspect its copied time, status, and fields. Move and cancel the original, then check that the copy follows. Include a recurring exception if you rely on recurring events, and inspect the meeting assistant or booking page used by the destination audience.
Replacing an older connection
Stop old subscriptions or duplicate automations once you have chosen which method to keep. If a calendar shows both an original feed and a new copy of the same event, hide one display to compare the sources before deleting anything.
When an employer changes its access policy or you leave an organization, review which connections and rules should remain active. Remove unwanted generated copies while you still have authorized access.
