How to Find Your CalDAV Server URL and Calendar Address

Find your CalDAV address in the calendar provider's connection settings, often under Sync or Connect a device. Copy the supplied address and username together: the webpage you use in a browser and the address a calendar app needs are often different.

Website, CalDAV address, or ICS link?

A website address opens your provider's interface, often after an interactive sign-in.

A CalDAV address is for software that discovers, reads, and, where permitted, updates calendars in the account. It can be a short server address or a longer provider-supplied path.

An ICS subscription link lets another app read an updating feed. It is read-only, with updates fetched periodically. If this is what the provider supplies, choose between importing a file and subscribing to a feed.

Copy the address from the provider's connection instructions instead of guessing it from the website's name.

Start with the provider's settings

Look for Calendar settings, Sync, Export, or Connect a device. A calendar's own menu may provide its individual address, while account settings provide the general server.

Fastmail, for example, documents https://caldav.fastmail.com/ as its discovery address. It requires your full Fastmail email address and an app-specific password. Its server details also explain how to get a full calendar URL when automatic discovery is unavailable. Do not substitute a custom email domain into a guessed address.

Nextcloud addresses depend on where the installation is hosted. Open its Calendar app and look in Calendar settings for connection information. The Nextcloud macOS guide illustrates why both the account name and server path matter. If an organization supplies the account, ask its administrator for the supported client details.

Keep credentials and private links out of public support posts. A redacted screenshot of the field labels is often enough to clarify what a setup form is asking for.

Match the address to the form

Some apps use automatic discovery and ask only for an email address and password. Others request a hostname, server path, port, or full URL. Do not split one address into several fields unless the instructions say to.

Apple Calendar on a Mac offers automatic, manual, and advanced CalDAV setup. Each requires different information, described in Apple's account guide. Choose the setup mode recommended by your provider; only fill the fields it requires.

After copying, check for leading or trailing spaces. Confirm whether the username is an email address or a separate account identifier. The name displayed in the browser's account menu may not be the login name.

An app password may also be necessary even when your ordinary password works on the website. The website and external calendar app can use different authentication methods.

Read access and write access

After connecting, identify the calendar by name and owner. A shared calendar can allow viewing while refusing new events or changes. If editing matters, create an appointment without guests, confirm it on the provider's website, edit it, then remove the test.

If viewing works but saving fails, investigate read-only permissions. A new URL cannot grant access the calendar owner has withheld.

Avum supports CalDAV alongside Google, Microsoft, and iCloud accounts. Enter the provider's supplied connection details, then choose the calendars in a Sync Rule. A source needs readable events; a destination needs write access. Some servers handle sign-in or calendar discovery differently, so test the connection before relying on it.

If sign-in fails, keep the exact error and work through CalDAV password, address, and permission checks. Repeatedly adding slightly different accounts usually makes diagnosis harder.
