How to Block Time from Secondary Calendars on Your Main Work Calendar
To protect time from a secondary calendar, first check whether your scheduling system can include that calendar directly. If it cannot, create busy events in the main calendar it checks, either manually or with an approved sync service.
A family, class, or project calendar can be visible beside work without affecting bookings. Get its occupied time into the calendar your scheduling system checks. The originals can stay where they are.
Identify the secondary calendar
Open one missed appointment and check its Calendar field and account. A Google account can contain a primary calendar plus Family and Classes. A Microsoft account can also contain additional calendars.
Write down the secondary calendar and the calendar where work meetings land. If a lecture is on Classes but colleagues check your primary Outlook work calendar, turning on Classes in your own view does not make that hour busy for them.
Native calendar-selection options
Some booking systems let you choose the calendars checked for conflicts. Google appointment schedules offer calendar availability settings, with some multi-calendar features depending on an eligible plan. Google explains availability across calendars.
If the system can directly check the secondary calendar, enable it and verify the result. This avoids creating additional copies just for that booking page.
Outlook's native personal-calendar availability connection has a narrower scope: it considers the primary calendar of one connected Google or Outlook.com account. Secondary calendars are not included by that feature. Microsoft documents the limitation.
If the primary personal calendar is empty and your appointments live on a shared family calendar, Outlook's connection will miss them.
Use a manual block when the workload is small
For a handful of commitments, create generic busy appointments in your main work calendar. Keep their dates and times aligned with the secondary source.
This is a reasonable choice for one school meeting or a short course. It is less convenient for a changing timetable, because moved and canceled events require attention in both places.
Avoid inviting coworkers to the source event just to make the time visible. They usually need availability, not the family calendar's guest list and notes.
Keep personal titles, notes, and locations out of work copies when colleagues only need availability.
Use automatic copies for a changing source
A dedicated sync service or approved automation can maintain destination busy blocks when source appointments change. Check that it supports updates and cancellations, not merely the first event creation.
Be selective. A secondary calendar may contain all-day reminders, holidays, or events you are not attending. Sending all of them as busy time could make your work availability less accurate.
Define the outcome before connecting: which source calendars, which events, and which work hours should be represented? If two family members share a calendar, decide whether every event really occupies your time.
A busy-time rule in Avum
Connect the source and work accounts in Avum, then select the actual secondary calendar as the source of a Sync Rule. Choose the main work calendar as destination.
Replace titles with a general label, omit descriptions and locations, and set the copies to Busy. Filter out events that do not occupy your time. The source might be Google, Outlook, iCloud, CalDAV, or a read-only ICS feed. Avum needs write permission in the destination, and CalDAV destinations must pass write verification first.
For a timetable feed, maintain the schedule at its publisher. Avum can create selected copies from the feed but cannot send your changes back through an ICS link.
If you only want to see the source beside work, Avum Calendar is a separate option that does not require copying.
The main calendar and the booking screen
Create a test event on the secondary calendar. Open the destination calendar by itself, then inspect the meeting assistant or booking page that accepts bookings.
Move the source event and make sure the occupied time moves with it. Cancel the test and check cleanup. Include an all-day event if the secondary calendar uses them; all-day availability needs its own status check.
If the main calendar has the busy block but a booking still appears, examine the scheduler's selected calendars and override settings.
